DAWN – HOMELESS FOOTBALL TEAM of Hong Kong has been formed since January 2005 and is set up by the Society of Community Organization. SoCO came to know about the Homeless World Cup and was inspired by the potential of football as a means for social inclusion. Homeless people from Hong Kong were invited to join a football program to help them raise their self esteem and improve their lives.
Alex Chan, Icicle's Founding Chairman, is the Team Manager and Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee. He personally led DAWN–HOMELESS FOOTBALL TEAM of Hong Kong to play in Homeless World Cup between 2005-2008.
Homeless World Cup has been hosted by the International Network of Street Papers since 2003. The organization, through holding the activities and selling its products – newspapers, help homeless people face the difficulties in their lives. Homeless World Cup is an international pilot project which aims to arouse public concern on homeless people and poverty problem all over the world. |
