ICICLE HONG KONG NAMED SMARTEST TREE PLANTER AT TREE-PLANTING CHALLENGE

Icicle’s Kay Leong, the original designer of “Pants Backpack” shows off her creation at the Tree Planting Challenge with Shaun Chiang from Icicle’s Digital Centre.

I was part of the team of four representing Icicle which sowed the seeds for some 30 trees at the 2014 Tree Planting Challenge organised by Friends of the Earth last Sunday, but that wasn’t our only achievement that day.

A special design backpack made from worn pants for carrying seedlings up Ma On Shan gained Icicle the title of “Smartest Tree Planting Team” at this year’s challenge. The creator of this ingenious design was our very own talented Kay Leong, Icicle’s Business Development Manager. Credit also goes to Kay’s mom for transforming the pants into bags with her fine needlework!

Each team was asked to create their carrier using recyclable material for transporting seedlings up to the top of the mountain.

We are proud to have been part of this very meaningful event, during which a total of 5,500 trees were planted in an area of naked hillside, resulted from hill fires back in 2012.

Well done, Icicle!
